How much is a used copier worth?
Nobody can tell you what your copier is worth without knowing the model and the copy count. Here is what moves the price, so you know what to look at before you ask.
There is no standard price
Two copiers that look the same from across the room can be worth very different amounts. A value calculator on a website is a guess. The only number that counts is a buyer's price in writing, based on your machine.
What moves the value
- Brand and model. Some models are in steady demand and some are not. A current range with parts and toner easily available is worth more than a discontinued one.
- Total copy count. The number on the status page shows how hard the machine has worked. Lower is generally better.
- Colour or mono. It depends on the model and on demand, so tell us which you have.
- Condition. Does it work, does it print cleanly, and are there faults or error messages?
- Options. Finishers, extra paper drawers, large capacity trays and document feeders add value when they are complete and working.
- Completeness. Missing panels, trays or feeders reduce the price.
- Where it is. Collection from a hard to reach site costs more to arrange.
- How many. A lot of several machines is easier to price and plan than a single one at the far end of a long trip.
What matters less than you think
What you paid for the machine and its age in years matter less than the model, the copy count and the condition. A younger machine that has made a huge number of copies can be worth less than an older one that has barely been used.
How to get a real price
Send us the brand and model, the town the machine is in, and a photo of the status page. The status page shows the model, serial number and copy count, and it is the quickest way to a price. Our guide to finding the copy count and serial number explains how to get one. Then ask for your price. We reply in writing, and there is no obligation.
Questions
Is a high copy count a problem?
It lowers the value, but a machine with a high count can still be worth buying if it is in good condition. Send us the count and we will tell you.
Is a faulty copier worth anything?
Sometimes. A machine that does not work can still have value for parts or as stock. Tell us the model and what is wrong with it, and we will say honestly whether it is worth selling.
Does colour or mono pay more?
It depends on the model and on demand at the time. Tell us which you have and the exact model.
