How to sell a used photocopier
Selling a used copier is simpler if you get a few things ready first. Here is the order that saves the most time.
1. Check you own it
If the copier is on lease, rental or a managed print contract, it is not yours to sell. Check your agreement. See our guide to end of lease options.
2. Gather the details
You need the brand, the exact model, the serial number and the total copy count. The quickest way to get all of them is to print or photograph the status page. Our guide to finding the copy count and serial number shows you how.
3. Take photos
Photograph the status page, the front of the machine, and any finisher or extra drawers. Phone photos are fine.
4. Clear your data
Copiers can store scans, address books and job history. See our guide to clearing data before you sell.
5. Choose how to sell
- Sell to a buyer like us. You send the details, get a price in writing, and the buyer collects. It suits people who do not want to deal with viewings and moving a heavy machine themselves.
- Sell privately. You can list it yourself, but you handle the enquiries, the viewings, the lifting, and the payment risk.
- Trade in through a dealer. This is convenient if you are buying a new machine from the same dealer, but the trade in value is part of that deal.
- Recycle or dispose. If the machine has no value, this may be your only option, and it may cost you.
6. Plan the collection
Tell the buyer about access: stairs, a lift or a loading dock, and any building rules about trades. Tell them the date you need the machine gone. A copier is heavy, so it needs the right people and equipment.
7. Keep the paperwork
Keep the written price and the serial number for your records. Schools, councils and businesses will want them for the asset register.
Questions
Can I sell a copier that does not work?
Often yes. Some machines still have value as stock or for parts. Tell us the model and the fault.
How much does it cost to sell a copier to you?
Nothing. Asking for a price is free, and we arrange and pay for collection of the machines we buy.
